: hi there all...i've used a pick almost exclusively up to now, but i'm sick of the limitations it puts on how fast i can play..yet i have poor right-hand fingering technique. Can anybody help? I want to get up to using all 4 fingers on both hands at once, like all my prog-rock bass playing heros do.

Just start off slow, using TWO fingers for now, your first and middle
fingers...Start off with slow eighth note patterns or even just playing
an open string..Drum rudiments are good practice as well..Have fun
building up those calluses!...It will feel awkward and uncomfortable
at first, just keep practicing...As far as using 4 fingers are concerned,
the only guy I've seen use that technique to any great extent is
John Entwhistle...Most fingerstyle bass players use just two fingers..
I mean, look at what Jaco did with two fingers, and Jeff Berlin as
well....

Good Luck
Pat H
