: What is the meaning of walking bass lines? And what's the difference between jazz and blues bass?
I'd like to mention that walking bass lines are usually played simultaneously with the drummer's ride cymbal pattern.
The ride cymbal pattern is close to quarter notes with some embellishments.
As far as blues bass and jazz bass: blues bass can be jazzed up or simple, but it's usually centered on a 12 bar cycle.
Our band plays a wide variety of blues chord changes for different songs. You can even have a lot of fun playing "Bird" changes on someone's solo, etc.
So, a blues tune can be as much jazz as a jazz tune with thick harmonies.
Furthermore, jazz bass gets involved with jazz standard tunes and more contemporary ones.
Come to Beale Street here in Memphis, TN to hear blues bass....BB King's blues club.
Go to New York City to hear jazz bass...Bluenote jazz club.
