: Check this out fingerstyle bassers, I have a question for all of you..
: Do you think raking your fingers (when you're crossing strings), coming say, from the G string to the A string is a bad idea?? What if its just plain easier to use just one finger to hit the notes rather than awkwardly alternating???? Thoughts???
: Thanks all
Raking is a viable technique if used in the right context. Jaco did it, Sheehan does it, Rocco does it, S. Bailey does it, Gary Willis does it...etc. However, it should never be used/substituted for proper finger alternation. If you want to play well, you need to learn how to use your picking hand correctly. Raking should not be used as a cop out for sloppy technique.
