: Hi, my biggest problem when playing the bass is making the strings scratch when I move my hand accross the fretboard. What can I do to quiet down that scratching noise?
While changing your strings and eq settings may help the problem, I have a few suggestions for technique improvement which may help.
1) Make sure your left hand is fretting one finger per fret.
3) Don't play all the low notes on your E string - Try and find them on the A string.
2) Try and keep your left hand in one postition while you may - most players move their hand up the neck when the note is also under their fingers on another string.
Try and do a two octave G major scale. You can do it with only two shifts of your left hand - It may change the way you think about your bass.
