: Previous answers to this question said "personal preference". Is there some typical average? On a 3/4 bass I acquired, the strings are 5/8" above the end of the fingerboard, which I think is 'way too high. My instruction book says they should be close, but of course not too close to buzz. I'm tempted to shorten the top of the bridge to place the strings at 3/8" or less above the end of the fingerboard. Any advice? thanks
Bridge is a preference to the type of style that you play. If you use the bow,you will want one height, and if you pizz you will want another.
The best advice was given before by finding a luthier to put adjusters on the bridge and adjust the height
to accomodate YOUR perticular style of play.
