: : : I am having my bass reconditioned, a 3/4 german turn of the century model. I have had the same set of strings forever, and would like any feedback about whether if some strings are less prone to that screetching

: : Do you play arco or pizz?
: : Or a mix of both? (in which proportion?)

: The new Obligato have a warm tone, are very easy to play arco and pizz, and are (relatively) afordable. What else do you want ? One point: they stretch a lot before reaching pitch so watch your bridge.

Here's a tip: You may be familiar with a company in Ann Arbor, MI(USA) that sells string instruments and accessories. I went to their web site (www.sharmusic.com) and downloaded their catalog. In the catalog there's descriptions of all the different kinds of strings and how they're made, etc. You can get whatever you want by mail order as well.

Not as good as actually trying them out - beu when strings are running over a hundred a set...what are you goinna do??
