: : I HAVE HEARD OF THIS FINGERING METHOD, BUT CAN'T FIND THE BOOK?? SUGGESTIONS AS TO SOURCE-THANX!!! SIMANTLE---SEMANTLE---SAMANTLE????
: F. SIMANDL is the author. The book is called: New Method for Double Bass. It should be available at Amazon.com. If not, most well stocked music stores would either have it, or be able to order it for you.
No doubt, your problem in locating the book is the spelling of the name. But I would question whether you really want that book. If you have a teacher who is expecting you to buy it, that's what you better do (assuming you want to continue studying with that teacher.) But it really leaves a lot to be desired as a method of instruction.
It always looked to me like people talk about Simandl for the same reason they talk about Kay/Englehardt basses. It's sort of just what's around a lot. I have done quite a bit of teaching (years ago) and at one time made a point of going through many of the bass method books and deciding which one I really felt was the most useful. I used the Lajos Montag method. Montag is/was hungarian and the books were hard to find.
I used to get them from Pattelson's in New York - and meybe you can get them from Amazon.com, I don't know. (I just tried to get onto Amazon - don't know why, but I can't seem to connect right at the moment.)
