I can only afford one Bass at the present time. It's a Kay. I use it in a jazz
band. It has Thomastik Spirocore Orchestra Strings. Great sustain! but seems
tough to bow. I only use the bow at home. I'm taking classical music lessons,
which I like and want to continue. Until I can afford to add another Bass, with
different strings, what can I do to make the bowed music sound better?
I'm using a fiberglass bow at present and I think it has synthetic hair.
Would a better bow help? I don't want to change my present type of string,
because it's got great sustain.
I would also like to know if I can do anything with the bow to help the sound.
Tighter bow? Looser bow? More rosin? Less Rosin? I tried those things
with no results, but would like an opinion. My teacher is on leave now,
so I can't ask my teacher. Would someone advise?
