I recently tried The Kaplan Golden Spiral strings. They are only made D and G, so you have to get some other guts for the E and A. I tried using them with Thomastik Strings but they were very different in character. So I took the Kaplans out. then I ordered Labella silver on gut E and A and tried all of em guts together, but I didnīt like the balance. Maybe the best solution is Pirastro Olive or Eudoxa, but I donīt know how they sound in a jazz situation. I liked the Kaplans very well. I like gut strings very much. When I use them it feels like theyīre working with the bass, but I think metal strings foce the bass more. Am I making sense?
I had no problem bowing them and I liked the sound. but Iīm playing in so many different circumstanses that I couldnīt spend the time getting used to them.
