: I normally use Thomastik Spirocores for jazz pizz, am considering trying the D'Addario helicore hybrids becasue I'm doing more gigs with bowing lately --- any thoughts/advice? It's an expensive mistake!
I've had Thomastics on my instrument for years. And what I've found is that they
are great for pizz, and only pizz! I play on an 80 year old carved, and it has
a natural dark sound. When I switched to D'Addarios they fit nicely with a warm
pizz and equally warm arco. Then I switched just recently to Corelli Fortes.
The pizz is incredible, and when I bow (and I play a lot in tenor and treble
clef) the sound literally shook my practice room! Clear bowing, sustained
pizz and not too expensive. For me Corelli is it! I'm even thinking about going
up to the Extra Fortes! They are the best strings that I have tried so far.
