: I do some traveling with a band, and have had trouble with getting the right sound while on the road. At home I use a Realist or Fishman (on the F hole), and go straight into an SWR CA Blonde, which works fine. However, I usually can't bring the amp on road trips. I'd like to find something like an amp head, preferably small, that I could go direct into off one of those pick-ups (I'm assuming it has to be designed for a piezo, but maybe not the Realist). I was hoping to stay under $1000 for the amp, but would appreciate any ideas. I can't let the sound man rule my life anymore!
The Acoustic Image Clarus sounds perfect for your needs. I have had one of the Contra combos for the past year and recently picked up the Clarus, which is essentially its guts.

Has a switchable 1 megohm/10 megohm input impedance, which will load either of the piezo pickups you mention without requiring a preamp. This little sucker is so small -- even with the photos until you get it in your hands you can't imagine how small. My dictionary is bigger , and it weighs 5 lbs. 300 watts into 2 ohms, 200 watts into 4 ohms, and 120 watts into 8 ohms. Four band EQ and it has a DI out, which should make the soundman and you both smile. Even comes with a little travel case that holds the cables it comes with.

And even with all this, the little sucker sounds really great for URB; I've also taken it out with an EA 208 cabinet for a fretless electric bass coffeehouse gig.

Good luck on your tour - hope this little unit satisfies your need.
