: I am considering the Acoustic Image Clarus amp. I like the 5 lb. weight, can anyone give info and endorse it. Is the 300 watts at 2 ohm,120 at 8 ohm enough for Jazz Trio venues?
I guess it depends on how loud those venues and your competition on stage gets and the efficiency and configuration of the cabinet your drive. I've had a Clarus for a couple months but have only taken it out once so far; I also own a Contra. It's a sweet little box-- and I mean, little, my Websters Dictionary is bigger. It's 200w/4 ohms, too. I get pretty good gain from my 8 ohm Euphonic Audio 208, and with the 8 ohm EA 210, for a total of 4 ohms, I get a lot of volume out of it. I think it would kick butt with my old 4 ohm Carvin 2x10, which was a great URB cab. If your input signal is weak, you may not get a lot of overall gain; unlike most amps where they really reach their highest potential outputs with both preamp and master gain somewhere in the middle of the scale, I have dimed my Clarus controls in some cases.
