: : I was given an Epiphone bass from a friend of the family's before he passed away. I know that it is prior to 1957, but I dont know how old it is. The lable reads "Epiphone B45" #992. It was made in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Can anyone help me?

: I have a 1941 Epiphone Bass that my Grandfather ordered and picked up from the Epiphone factory which was located in New York City in Nov of 1941. I would assume that your bass was made after that factory closed, unless there was more than one place where Epiphone basses were being made. I'm not sure when the factory closed in NYC. Also I can't find any tags inside.
:
That must have been a close-out sale when your granfather got that Bass, as they
stopped production in 1942 due to WW2. The New York Factory was moved from
Manhatten to Philadelphia in 1953,after the Conn Co. got financial control.
Then Gibson, Epiphones' long time competitor, buys them out on 10 May, 1957.
So if the label says Kalamazoo, it was made after that date.
and moves them to Kalamazoo
