: I plan on buying the Euphonic Audio VL-210 cabinet, and wonder if anyone could reccomend what the amp best head might be...aside from a Walter Wood which is just not in the budget right now. I play the double bass, 98% jazz, for which I use the Acoustic Image Contra. The Contra is an amazing amp, but there are occasionally gigs where I need more volume. Like everyone else, I don't want to sacrifice sound. Some one recommended the iAmp 600 by EA, but I've never known anyone who owned one, and I never heard one. It definitely has
: plenty of power. What is "head room", and how important is it? Also I thought about using the Clarus by AI abut it hardly seems to have enough power for this cabinet, sort of like an ant moving a boulder.
I have an EA 210 cabinet and also a Clarus (and a Contra) -- you are right in your assumption that it would be insufficient to drive it. First, the Clarus only puts out 120w into 8 ohms, and second, the EA is not as efficient as other 2x10 cabinets. I would suggest you look at the EA head; while I've not heard the newest 600w version, I did play through the original 500w unit and it was very nice IMHO.
