: I'm thinking of trying the Corelli 370TX strings on my bass. I have heard that they do not last very long and must be replaced after 6 months or so. Right now I'm using 4 month old Pirastro Obligatos that sound great with the bow but recently went pretty dead for pizz. How long have your Corellis lasted?
My Corelli 370TX are still quite alive, two years later, but I will confess that I do not play them more than twice a week (hand problems). I have also heard one person say that they only lasted six months, but I have to wonder: a) what kind of treatment they got, and b) what was the criteria for considering them spent. They are initially a little bright but calm down to a nice warm but still distinct tone after 2-4 weeks IME. I continue to be very pleased with them, and the 2+ year old set on my Juzek still sustain well, and I have a 2 month old set on my Kay and don't hear a significant different, though obviously they are quite different basses. I guess it has a lot to do with both use and personal expectations. At least they are not very expensive.
I am told the Obligatos are similar, and if you do try the Corellis, I'd be interested in hearing your assessment of their similarities/differences.
