: Hello all, I am a drummer considering going to upright bass. I had a few questions concerning this..I am looking for a 3/4 size, plywood bass. From what I understand the action needs to be a little high and gut strings used for rockabilly. (this is what I am really interested in playing) What other things do I need to be aware of? Also, there is a guy here in town that teaches upright, but he plays jazz. Should I go ahead and take lessons with this guy, just to familiarize myself with the instrument? Please help! Thanks in advance..

Rory: By all means take lessons from the bass player, that is assuming he
reads and teaches theory. Studing jazz is a good suggestion for all from
classical to bluegrass to rockabilly.
