The GK amp sounds very good to me most of the time at low to medium volumes. With a minimum amount of EQing I can get a sound that pretty closely resembles the unamplified tone of my bass. When the volume gets lound the sound starts to get artificial- somewhat metallic and twangy. I don't think this is a characteristic of this particular amp because it has happened on other rigs I've played through. I thought that maybe if I boosted the level of the signal going into the amp I could get more volume and still keep the sound I get when the GK is not cranked.
