: I am an experienced electric bassist. I play both fretted and fretless electric bases. I am now interested in playing bouble bass. As I am not interested in studying with anyone at this time, is there anyone who can recommend a book or a place online where I can find information on locating the notes on a double bass? For example, where does first position end and second position begin, etc...? Playing that monster in tune must be quite challenging, but it is a welcomed challenge for me.
The Simandl method is a longtime standby for many teachers and with its illustrations, could be suitable for teaching yourself, assuming you read music. There are different fingering methods, but Simandl does the job. I lost my book years ago, but recently acquired a new one through Amazon.com - just key in Simandl as the keyword - it comes right up and is only $14.95.
