: : : I am having my bass reconditioned, a 3/4 german turn of the century model. I have had the same set of strings forever, and would like any feedback about whether if some strings are less prone to that screetching

: : Do you play arco or pizz?
: : Or a mix of both? (in which proportion?)

: The new Obligato have a warm tone, are very easy to play arco and pizz, and are (relatively) afordable. What else do you want ? One point: they stretch a lot before reaching pitch so watch your bridge.

thanks for the advice- I will check out the obligato. I play about 50-50 arco pizz for practice, but less arco for gigs, which I hope to increase as my tone improves. I just switched to Kolstein all weather rosin, which seemed to help, and would appreciate any input about that as well. I have been "away" in that I have played only fretless electric for the past 15 years, so this feels almost all new to me

Thanks for the support-dan
