I have been a bassist for 28 years and I have a Fernandez fretless electric, Gibson Les Paul 5 string, Fender Stum Ham 4 string, and upright acoustic.... All these instruments have something differant to offer musically.... There are some venues that would be better with an acoustic and some better with electric, plus, I perform totally through feeling and mood...so I use whatever instrument I'm in the mood for. Tone and expression is what the differance is in all these instruments. This has led for developing differant techniques and music with every differant instrument. My point is, is that I have learned so many differant musical techniques with differant instruments. More importantly, I am now known in my area as a versitile musician and it has definately secured many gigs for me because of the flexibility of instruments. It has opened up many opportunities with many musicians.. So if you can have both, get them... but not one is better than the other.....it is a matter of what sounds and feels good. Don't pigeon hole yourself to a particular instrument or a particular sound... Variety is what makes music fun and makes a musician creative... Well that is my 2 cents worth. thanks Ramiro
