: I'm a new upright player, been playing for about 2 months and I find myself getting these really bad blister on my fingers (filled with both water and blood). I would like to know how do you get rid of them properly and is there any way to provent them. Thanks
Some thoughts: The higher the action, the more likely you'll get blisters. Also, gut strings present more friction than steel strings. Are you getting any guidance, do you have a teacher? Has someone knowledgeable set up your bass?
In the bad old days, before amps, I regularly developed blisters, and when you have a steady gig, you have to play. I did have to learn how to lance a blister and treat it so I could keep playing. I was taught by Cecil Taylor's bassist. However, it's ugly, grisly, and I won't tell you how it's done if I can't be there. I would concur with the other postings: Lighten up, slow down, neither Rome nor a callous were built in a day
