: I'm a new upright player, been playing for about 2 months and I find myself getting these really bad blister on my fingers (filled with both water and blood). I would like to know how do you get rid of them properly and is there any way to provent them. Thanks
Coupla things:try to find something called mentholatum to rub on the blisters, it helps the pain (it's kinda like a super Vicks VapoRub)and moisturises the area. (personal anecdote: I found out about this from Elvin Jones who, while rubbing this onto my bloodblisters said "yeah, Jimmy used to have to do this sometimes").
I do disagree with Daves assessment that they will turn into callous, my experience has been that they will harden and then slough off after about week or so. Whether or not you put up with them or wait is up to you, I was playing a lot so I had to keep going...
