: Hi. I have a URB that was made in China it has ebony finger board and a good set up. I think it sounds and plays well but I want sell it and get something better. I was thinking about a Engelhardt Swingmaster or a Strunal carved top, laminated sides and back. What I was wondering is if anyone has played both of those basses and how do they compair. Oh I mostly play Jazz and experimental music. thanks

My question to you is, what do you think? I have played both basses. I had an Englehardt S-1 for a while, but my opinion, and for that matter the opinion of anyone else, is certainly tertiary to your own gut instincts. There are probably a half a dozen other basses in that price range (S-1, Strunal)that might interest you. Go to a good shop (bass violin shop), and check out all the basses in your chosen price range. Ignore the manufacturers or luthiers, and buy the one that best suits your style.

Good Luck!
