: : I have been toying with the idea of trying gut string on my upright i would love any comment regarding anyone's own personal experience in the matter. I am currently playing mostly jazz and think maybe i could get a more percussive sound with the gut.
: I'm not sure what you mean by "more percussive". To me, a more percussive sound is what I get with steel strings when I let my callouses get too hard. Maybe "thumpy" is what you mean, big attack, quick decay, short sustain? I dunno, most of the PC I have on record is with him using gut strings and he doesn't seem to have a problem with getting a very singing sound out of his bass.
I purchased a set of La Belle Deep Talkin Bass Strings for my upright and get a great smooth percussive sound. Lemur Music Co. from Ca. carries them.
