: : 1938 kay m1 3/4 s/n 1065. Tone is incredible. Got the usual dings and scratchs but it's original, including end pin & crutch tip. It's purfled, has engraved tuners. Want to trade for 1/2 size. My kay is honey colored to dark with some grain striping, unusual two-piece neck. If you're looking for bluegrass bass that's got the deep punch this is it. By the way the M1's were 1st made in 1938 & a few were designated "Alvin Hawes" model (fancy M1). This bass is the M1-fancy. All my knowledge about this bass was provided by Roger Stower's kay bass site. He has written me twice about it. I live in Southern Ohio. If you have a 1/2 size & interested call. The ONLY reason I'm letting this go is due to very tight travel restrictions & for a lessor reason-- this old bass is a classic. I don't want to add to the dings packing it around. It just can't be replaced & I worry every time I take it out.
