: I've my bass at the luthiers for a minor repair, and I really want to know what you mean by "setup the bass"?
: Mine sounded right the first time I played on it (I thought)
: What do you do yo do by setup a bass?? Replace things such as the bridge or tail piece?
: I play a lot slap bass, so the only thing important to me is the distance between string and fingerboard (which is going to be replaced just now).
: Or am I wrong????????/
: please tell me!!??

"Set-up" can mean a little or alot, depending on the condition of the bass and how you intend to use it. The aggregate effect of a lot of small adjustments can be significant. The sound post may need relocation or replacement. Same for the bridge. Depending on bridge location, the tailpiece may have to be let up or drawn down to maintain the proper distance between it and the bridge. And so on.
