: Share your wisdom.

: I have an interesting problem with Thump. I've noticed that I get an unpitched thump
: in the attack of each pizzacato note. Sounds like a bluegrass Kay,
: but not acceptable for jazz. I'm using an Underwood pickup and if I go straight
: into the amp, its there. If I patch through the EQ its still there but not as much.

: Question,A) is the Thump a result of a too thick bridge?
: B)Too deep a string notch?
: C)Poor sound post placement?
: D) Dead strings (less than a year old D'Darios)?

My first guess would be the soundpost. However, free advice is worth the price. The fact is, whatever it is, you're going to need a luthier to solve the problem. I use D'Addario pizz Helicores, and although mine are fine after a year, it's the opinion of some others that they die too young. To eliminate the strings as the cause, maybe you could try mounting them on another bass to see how they sound. Good luck.
