I have a bass that sounds fantastic acoustically. For the last two years I've been using a Galien Krueger MBE amplifier (when it's needed) for gigs. I've been able to get a reasonable facsimile of the instrument's sound using the direct XLR output going straight to a board. This has worked o.k. but never really been great. However, I recently played a festival where I was "forced" to go direct into an active D/I. I'd always thought of the "dreaded D/I" as a last resort, but to my amazment this time got a pretty damn fine sound! I don't know if it was the sound man (doubtful), the particular D/I or simply that it was an active D/I that was the genesis of this new sound, but I really liked it. Anybody out there in bass land have any thoughts, comments or ideas. As I said I'm no expert....
