www.jimlaabs.com has cheap uprights, but I don't know about the quailty. You might also want to check your local band instrument rental places to see if you can rent an upright just to see if you like playing it. Usually the rental uprights don't look very pretty or in some cases sound super, but most play OK. Plus a lot of places let you put the money you spend in rent toward another upright of your choice. It's better than spending $$$ on something you decide isn't for you after a few months.
