: I own a Fender Jazz, Kay upright, and Tacoma electric/acoustic. The disadvantage of using the upright is transportation... I would constantly reach for the electric, purely because it was convenient. Tone is great, but have you ever tried to squeeze a full sized upright into a Honda? I would strongly recommend the Tacoma. The tone is incredible and with the right technique, you can obtain that upright sound.

Not for playing straight ahead jazz you couldn't. If you like the sound, great. Play the instrument that you like. BUT IT DOES NOT SOUND LIKE AN UPRIGHT BASS. String length is far too short for one thing. A lot of other factors, but that's a good start. Plus try playing one without an amp.

I have gotten uprights into the following:1974 VW bug,1977(?)Honda Civic (with the little rubber gasket aroung the back window) 1988 Chevy Caprice, 1984 Toyota Tercel (no big deal, a hatch back)...
