: Hello,

: Can somebody tell me if the pirastro obligato strings is a good string for playing blues en rock & roll on the URB.
: Has anyone better suggestions. (sorry about my englisch, i'm from holland)

About Obligato: recent trends in string design is about the material(s) used for the core of the string. Whereas the new D'addario Helicore inaugurated the use of damping material (silk?!) in conjunction with steel rope, Pirastro, as well as other string manufacturers (Super sensitive, Velvet, Thomastik ?), is offering a string with a synthetic fiber core, named Obligato. It's an interesting string for the ones (like me) who want a string which can do both main ways to get sound out of a string: arco and pizz. Not many strings meet this compromise and Obligatos are good at that.

About Blues and Rock 'n Roll: IMHO, the problem you're gonna face here is not really the strings: Obligato will do, but also Spirocore or Helicore and any ol' pizz string. The real problem is volume: you'll need to amplify your bass to keep up with the drums volume and that's a really tough compromise since all this nice accoustic sound with those good strings will be distorted by pick-up and amp.
