I have been going several times to Cuba and recently started learning to play ( no bow) the double bass with some pros over there. I wanted to get one of the instrument these guys buy for only 80$ and play very well!! Unfortunetly Cuba being Cuba the factory had no stock left...and was waiting for most of the parts.
I'm leaving Tokyo for Korea in two days and want to get one there. As a quite confused beginner what should I be looking for? Since I do not know what a good sound is, should I trust a Western, Korean or Chinese brand name? (I was told that Universal-Korean-is OK) What kind of wood and what kind of parts, strings... is a descent double bass made of? What should be avoided and what obvious defects should I look for....This time I'm willing to pay up to 1500$. Much more if necessary once when I get better...
Many many thanks
