I also began playing bass as an adult. I started on electric bass guitar with a jazz teacher (Phd in jozz composition type of guy). After two years I added upright bass and began studying with a Jazz Bassist who played with many famous jazzplayers. After a year of study with him, I began studying with the Principal bassist in my symphony. Studied with them for a year.
I am now on my own playing in a cover band, playing in my church, and still working on my jazz and classical playing (I played with a big band for over a year not long ago, but the demands of the traveling for gigs became too much).
I have no regrets in starting this activity up, and am regarded as a very competent bassplayer who gets many calls to play. I have only been playing bass about 6 years, but have been playing other instruments since I was a youngster.
Love to discuss my trials and tribulations with any adult beginner of the accoustic bass (or electric). firstname.lastname@example.org
