: Hello, I just became the owner of what apears to be an old Kay 3/4 size upright bass.It was given to me by a freind when he heard that my son wanted to learn to play.It is in sad shape at the moment. It got rained on ,,,
: It seems the previous owner was at a bluegrass festival traveling in a van .
: and in order to have room for 2 more women in the van he put the bass on the top of the van and it rained that night.,,,so top lamination is coming apart and the neck is brocken off just at the top of the heel.
: any info on finding a top would be thanked.I can make the neck work as I have done this repair on violins a lot but have never tried to put lamination back together.
: Thanks David Thompson
englehardt company will sell you a replacement neck at a verry low cost. you can use your finger baord and nut and tunners. tops can be re glued if they are not beyond it. there is always a posiblity of repair if you know someone that does not charge a arm and a leg.. englehardt has a web page.; if it does not have their number on it email me and i will send it to you
