:Kyle, I can't emphasize enough that it all starts with the acoustic sound you get out the instrument. There is no way to get a big warm centered focused PROJECTING sound out of your amp without first getting it out of the bass. And you can drive yourself crazy and spend WAY too much money trying to chase down a solution by buying different equipment. So (as I have said before) whenever possible don't use the amp at all (I play with a 19 piece big band and don't use an amp for rehearsals). Never practice with the amp and, whenever you can, don't use one for sessions or even gigs. Working on getting a good sound is as much about left hand as right hand, you want to make sure you have good positioning and a good expectation of what the next note you are going to play sounds like. I know when I first made the switch from electric to upright I was playing with a lot more amp but getting a much worse sound than now.
