: Hi,
: Does anyone have any experience with the Helicore Hybrid bass strings? I'm thinking about ordering them for some better pizz sound, but I'm worried that they aren't going to give me the same feel or responsiveness as the Helicore Orchestral strings.
: Also...I had a Hybrid low C string which I tried to put on my bass and snapped. I have a Kolstein C for a backup, if I don't want to shell out another $34.00 for a replacement Hybrid...does anyone think that I would notice a big difference between the strings, considering it's only a C string?
: Thanks,

I have never used the hybrid my self, but the subject has been discussed many times in different forums. The consensus seems to be that the hybrid is only a little less scratchy than your usual pizz string. Since you already have the Kolstein C, why not just put it on and see for yourself? If you must have a string that does both, you could try the Pirastro Obligato. It has a sound in the direction of gut, although it's steel on a synthetic core. It does not have the sustain of a Spirocore or a Helicore pizz, but it lasts longer than an arco string. It is lower tension, and very rich sounding on my orchestra bass. But I don't know if it comes in C length
