: Hi,
: Does anyone have any experience with the Helicore Hybrid bass strings? I'm thinking about ordering them for some better pizz sound, but I'm worried that they aren't going to give me the same feel or responsiveness as the Helicore Orchestral strings.

Ok, here's the deal- I just spent the last two weeks trying out a variety of strings on my Kolstein Fendt and here are the results, IMHO:

Kolstein Varicore- Nice Arco sound, Deep and dark, but not too good for pizz

Helicore Hybrids- Great Volume, a bit more tension, Beautiful Pizz sound, Great Sustain, but so-so response for Arco.

Corelli 370- Great all Around String! The best for all styles,IMHO. Not as loud
as the helicores, but fantastic arco sound and response, good sustain on the pizz side also.

Corelli 370TX- Same thing, but quite a bit more string tension.

Jargar- Almost a gut sound, Perfect for arco, and the Dolce gauge is a good jazz string also.

Thomastik Dominant- A bit scratchy for Arco, decent Pizz, but there are better strings.
Haven't tried the Pirastros yet, but from what I've heard they are pretty good as well.
As you can see, all strings have good qualities, it just depends on what you want to do with them and your personal style.
