Through the Zellers? I don't get the reference...
There are any number of luthiers/shops that sell basses in Britain, it again is hard to determine what your budget is ("even money?")or what you mean when you say "decent 3/4 bass". Are you looking for a carved bass or plywood? New? When you say you are looking to spend the same amount that you would on a "decent solid body bass" (at least i think that's what you're saying)are we talking $800-1200? Because you are going to be Very Lucky to find a good plywood bass in that price range. Median price seems to be $1500. There are plywood and carved Chinese basses of unknown depth of quality out there that are cheaper, likewise Romanian basses, you should be able to actually get those cheaper in Europe that here in the States. There is a maker in Sussex, Paul Bryant, whose basses have gotten very good report and he is selling to the domestic market for the neighborhood of 3000 pounds or so. These are basses built on the model of the best of the English basses (Lott, Kennedy, Panormo).

So anyway, here is a list of makers, luthiers and/or shops that I know of that sell uprights in Britain. Best of luck.
