: : Reed !
: : Strings are very expensive and even more so here in Sweden...
: : My next buy will be a set of Helicores/light gauge !

: Christian, be aware that the same strings won't sound the same on different basses.
: Go with the Helicore pizz light only if you want the brightess tone possible.
: I'd personnally go with the Heavy gauge to get more body.
: I've tried many variants of Helicores (light and medium arcos, medium and heavy hybrids) and definitely didn't liked the light gauges.
: I've found the Helicores sounded thinner than Spirocores or Jazzers, and that medium or heavy was the gauge to go!

:RE: Yeah, I should have put a disclaimer on my post:All Basses (and tastes)are
different. My results do not represent the universal results. Personally,Though,
I think the heavy gauge puts too much of a Strain on the top table of the bass.
Depending on the age and construction of the bass,(Christian, in your case the
150-year old Tyrolean bass)This can compromise the instrument's sound and integrity.
(I did talk to Barrie Kolstein about this, and he agrees.)
I also am uncomfortable with the increased stiffnes of the heavier strings. But,
as you said, francois, that's my 0.02 cents.
