: I recently saw in a Musician's Friend catolouge an Epiphone EB-1 viola bass, fretless with a telescoping stand for upright use. Now i'm an electirc bassist interested in upright playing. I'd like to know if anyone has had experience playing that bass or a bass similar to it. The price is $359. so If anyone has had experience with this bass or a similar one in its price ranage please let me know.

The only thing in common with an upright bass is that they are both vertical. It's only a fretless bass guitar with a flat fingerboard and a gimmick. It's not something you should consider if you're interested in expanding into double bass.

I've not seen anything in that price range that could pass for an upright bass, other than some of the cheap import laminated uprights that have made their way into pawn shops.
