: Hey all...
: I have a semi-crappy Lidl 3/4 bass I use for outdoor festivals etc...it is stiff and quiet...I was hoping some lighter strings and better action would make it louder and more playable....any suggestions?
: ps...if you could also email a copy of the response that would be superb
If you put lighter strings on your bass with the same action, the strings will be at a lower tension - ie "floppier" - to play at the same pitch, but quieter. If you put lighter strings on your bass and raise the action, it's a matter of luck whether the bass will be louder or not. If you play mostly at festivals, what is your set-up? What pick-up do you use? Do you block the f - holes with foam rubber to minimise feedback? Where do you put your amplifier? I've played a few festivals myself and I no longer have a problem with feedback or lack of volume.
