: Hi.

: I am a seasoned bass guitarist who is seeking to expand my talents by purchasing an upright bass. I receive the catalogue of International Violin Company, LTD., which sells a line of laminate basses under the brand name Engelhardt-Link. I am wondering if anybody is familiar with this company and if so, can you recommend them as far as decent sound, good playability, and most importantly of all, durability? I would appreciate any help with this subject.

: Also, if you cannot recommend these basses, what about the company called Palatino?

: Thanks again.

: Robbie

Robbie,

Englehardt took over when Kay went out of business I think sometime in the 60's. Ive had a couple of them and presently have an S-9 Englehardt that I love to play. I also have an old German Pfretzchner, carved bass but bought the Englehardt because of its durability. For a lower end laminated bass I think they are great. Fairly slim neck, and pretty loud. Playing out door a lot, the weather does not seem to effect the bass much. This S-9 was pretty green when I bought it but seems get better with age.

Hope this helps a little

Rick
