: Hi.
: I am a seasoned bass guitarist who is seeking to expand my talents by purchasing an upright bass. I receive the catalogue of International Violin Company, LTD., which sells a line of laminate basses under the brand name Engelhardt-Link. I am wondering if anybody is familiar with this company and if so, can you recommend them as far as decent sound, good playability, and most importantly of all, durability? I would appreciate any help with this subject.
: Also, if you cannot recommend these basses, what about the company called Palatino?

: Thanks again.

: Robbie

Hey, I currently own an Englehardt EC-1. It has a bevelled neck below the E-string, and is extremely sturdy. I am currently in the market for a fully-carved bass, but I will not part with my Englehardt. It has been a great beginner bass, and the tone production, pizz or arco, is really good.

If you are looking to get into the double bass, I think that an Englehardt is an excellent choice. Find a good teacher though, it will drastically accelerate the learning curve.
