i went through the fishman, tried every possible placement, filing etc, used the pre-amp and like you, still hated it. surprisingly, the cheaper underwood worked much better for me. i am in an "ear bleeding" band to boot. however: i also run through a demeter DI box which i fortunately have on permanent loan (they are not cheap). it balances the output, makes a ton of difference. it is amazing in the studio as well. plugging f-holes really changed my sound in an unacceptable manner (but it did kill all feedback). over the years after trying many different amps and bottoms i have found that my present monster SVT head with an Ampeg 4x10 bottom works the best, cranked (believe it or not). there is definately something about the 10 inch speakers and the upright (not just my experience). 12s and (godforbid) 15s just do nothing but howl. i'm convinced that feeback control and the upright doesnt have so much to do with sheer volume but the type and the control (hence my SVT and the Demeter).

after 10 years my underwood is crapping out on me. i am awfully curious about the gage-realist.

: Right now I have the Fishman BP-100 and I hate it. I'm looking for a great pick-up that is under $500. I need something with a little more gain than the Fishman that doesn't get so much feedback. Any others sugestions - please reply.
